Banning, Betrayals, and the Winds of War

Quite a lot has unfolded across the realm since my last dispatch, so I suggest you settle in and buckle up. We have much to unravel today.
The Fall of ApoK & The 1,142-Word Farewell
Let us begin with the elephant that has been looming over the tavern corners for weeks. ApoK—one of the infamous Devourers who descended upon our realm—found themselves abruptly banned in early July.
Initially, whisperings in Global Chat painted a picture of a alcohol-fueled tirade directed squarely at the Development team. However, darker rumors soon bubbled to the surface: allegations of illicit real-currency transactions for in-game assets—a direct and severe breach of the terms of service.
On July 16th, the plot thickened. Bob, another prominent Destroyer, entered Global Chat to deliver his version of the saga. He cast direct blame on TCol leader Lola, claiming she had accepted real-world money from ApoK in exchange for towns.
“Don’t trust Lola,” Bob alleged in GC. “She will sell your towns for IRL money then report you and get you banned.”
Bob asserted he was personally present in the Discord server when the transaction was negotiated and executed via PayPal, after which the transaction records were allegedly handed over to the Devs. While Lola maintained complete silence in Global Chat, she quietly abandoned her account on July 18th, leaving behind a final, 1,142-word farewell message sent to her alliance.
Having reviewed a copy provided by an undisclosed source, the core narrative of her manifesto condenses to this:
- After facilitating town transfers to ApoK—who subsequently provided monetary funds to Gilsus as a “thank you”—Lola reported the matter to developers only after ApoK boasted to another player about buying towns with real currency.
- While framing her eventual report as a proactive measure, the text reads as an attempt to deflect personal responsibility for facilitating the illicit deal, focusing instead on salvaging the alliance’s public image.
While I’m not directly saying Lola is guilty, she did say that she did nothing to get Apok banned initially. Yet later sent this mail which does imply quite a bit of guilt, as she wasn’t truthful in the beginning.
A New Challenger Emerges: Winds of Change [TOUR]
Turning our attention to broader horizon events, the upcoming tournament draws near. While the announced prize pool is undeniably enticing, the real story lies in the shifting geopolitical landscape.
Historically, tournament victory has been the reserved domain of a few entrenched juggernauts. Enter a new contender intent on breaking the status quo: Winds of Change [TOUR].
As stated directly in their alliance profile:
“For too long, the tourney scene has been dominated by the same alliances. For half a decade, the minor powers have been merged and absorbed to feed the hegemony of these groups… It’s time for that to change.”
At the time of writing, TOUR stands at rank #2 overall, boasting 66 members and commanding 1,071 towns. Being a newly minted coalition, their activity metric sits at a crisp 100%. Their roster features seasoned veterans drawn from a wide spectrum of banners—including BIG, Chill, FIT, Free, HOG, H?, ITG, mCrow, OGRD, RATS, Ridle, TCol, and UNION.
Will this combined front prove powerful enough to dismantle the old tournament hegemony? Time will tell.
